The Canberra Times | In The City Magazine
Ilove that the days are getting longer, but we
have plenty of things to fill them with here
at Canberra CBD Limited. We're pleased that
during winter more people have glided across
the ice of our skate rink than previous years;
we've booked the camels for the Christmas
Carnival in the City; and we have a new business
plan guiding Canberra CBD Limited through a
year that is certain to be economically challenging
for the 565 shareholders of this business who
own the commercial buildings throughout the city,
Braddon and Turner.
One of those businesses, Shop Handmade
Canberra, deserves congratulations for winning
a Telstra business award and I would like to also
congratulate all of those businesses who strive to
create a unique and worthwhile experience here in
the city - I greatly admire them all.
We continue to work hard on behalf of our
shareholders by insisting on a cleaner, safer and
more attractive CBD of the national capital so that
you choose to visit, shop and do business here.
After all, it's the best place between here and
Pitt Street Mall in Sydney.
Our support for activity in the city centre
is delivered in a variety of ways. We sponsor
the Canberra International Film Festival, the
You are Here festival, the National Multicultural
Festival, the Floriade shuttle bus service and the
Centenary of Canberra.
Tell us if you think your event is worthy of the
generosity of Canberra CBD Limited and you may
benefit too. Each year we assess what is appropriate
for our sponsorship support.
A lot of our money is spent on city improvements
and it is gratifying that the majority of individuals and
businesses surveyed in our last round of satisfaction
surveys stated that they supported what we do.
The survey found 91 per cent liked our investment
into the pocket parks such as Heather and Arthur
Shakespeare Square at 15 London Circuit, whilst 92
per cent were positive about the hanging baskets
of flowers and 82 per cent like the fairy lights. This
financial year, we promise to upgrade the fairy lights
because a lot of them aren't working properly.
A significant sculpture on City Hill will also be
unveiled towards the end of the centenary year as a
legacy of our collective dedication to Canberrans and
their City centre.
But just we're busy this spring, doesn't mean you
shouldn't take a moment to relax and enjoy another
terrific read of In The City magazine. You can read
more about Canberra CBD Limited and its In-The-
City brand on our website www.inthecitycanberra.
