WINTER BLOCKBUSTERS WITH JOANNA BAKER
Native American warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold
tales that transformed man-of-the-law John Reid (Armie Hammer) into a
legend of justice, the Lone Ranger. Opposites brought together by fate, the
dynamic duo join forces to battle greed and corruption.
Taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction,
this latest reimaging of the classic tale utilises the expertise and familiarity of its
parts to the films best benefit.
From producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, the filmmaking
team behind box office blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, The Lone
Ranger a thrilling adventure infused with action and humour.

Spiral-eyes and Diamonds
HonkyTonks, June 19 to July 2.
Spiral-eyes and Diamonds brings
together two prominent street artists of
the Canberra graffiti community. JRB and
Walrus will showcase a collection of work
produced over the last year, exploring
their various methods and media. JRB's
characters are a collision of 1950s cartoon
with twisted gangster attitude, decorated
with tattoos and cheeky expressions.
Walrus's art style is highly stylised and
decorative, exploring concepts of science,
psychology and spirituality.
2113: A Canberra Odyssey
Canberra Museum and Gallery,
July 13 to November 3.
Museums usually tell of real events, places
and people; this exhibition stretches the
definition to explore scenarios of how
Canberra might be in its bicentennial year
-- 2113. It presents aspects of Canberra
informed by academics, artists and
curators. The exhibition aims to provoke
discussion at this contemplative time in
the history of our city.
The Side Project
CraftACT: Canberra Craft and Design
Centre, July 18 to August 24.
The Side Project is a collaboration
between internationally renowned
Australian designer Cesar Cueva and
Sydney-based chef Karl Firla. It draws
on the culinary movement of molecular
gastronomy and presents new work
exploring the relationship between
this movement and object design. The
Side Project will include an interactive
dinner created by chef Karl Firla and an
exhibition of new work by Cueva.
Marianna del Casillo
CraftACT: Canberra Craft and Design Centre,
July 18 to August 24.
Marianna del Casillo's intriguing jewellery
creations have aesthetic links to her
Ecuadorian heritage. She uses materials
that are found or discarded that invoke
a forgotten story or untold narrative.
She said that her art is about "creating
increased detail and innovation with
recycling at its core."
