The cooler autumn is a relief from the very
hot summer Canberrans experienced this
Canberra CBD Ltd was very pleased
with crowds for its inaugural Christmas
Carnival In The City event with crowds
exceeding 33,000 for the 12 days. The camels and
water balls proved to be the crowd favourites.
It was then straight into January and the long
awaited Centenary of Canberra. Canberra CBD Ltd
is a major sponsor of the Centenary of Canberra.
Coming up in March are two centenary events being
held in the city.
The first is We Built This City, a public construction
extravaganza produced by Polyglot Theatre. The
event will take place in Civic Square from Thursday,
March 7, to Saturday, March 9. Using nothing but
thousands of big cardboard boxes and the energy
and ingenuity of kids and families, a magnificent city
is built in one day followed by the fun of tearing it all
The Village in Glebe Park from Tuesday, March 19,
to Sunday, March 24, is a gorgeous assembly of tents,
caravans and buses, puppet booths and inflatables
developed around the concept of an old European
village. The Village appears on the green like an old-
time-travelling carnival or a gypsy wedding. It creates
a unique platform for both emerging and established
professional artists, across the broadest range of
disciplines, to present their new work and test new
ideas. It is an immersive cultural experience and feels
like you have entered an artist's studio, a circus, or

The ACT government's Bunda Street upgrade
is testimony to the ever changing face of our great
city. As Garema Place reclaims its rightful position
in the growing hospitality hub and as Bunda Street
continues to introduce new offerings, it is appropriate
to look at how cars, pedestrians and bikes share this
heavily used area. Canberra CBD Ltd will be formally
responding to the three different proposals presented.
Braddon has also burst into the limelight again with
new offerings abounding in Lonsdale Street. Canberra
CBD Ltd is working with the ACT government on
issues such as parking and improvements to both
Lonsdale and Mort streets. If you haven't been to
Braddon for a while, a short stroll up from Bunda
Street will take you into a new world of funky retail
and hospitality, along with some trusted favourites.
On the other side of the city, Canberra CBD Ltd
has funded the construction of a new pocket park in
between Darwin Place and 15 London Circuit, totally
transforming the area.
The west side of the city boasts some great
restaurants, pubs, cafes and night clubs. Why not stay
in one of a number of great city hotels and explore the
nightlife or catch a movie at the new Palace Electric
Get to know your city better and you will be
surprised how much it has come of age -- 100 years
old and still growing strong.
