Home' In The City : Canberra Style - Spring Summer 2012 Contents Set to be one of Canberra's
summer highlights, the
inaugural Burley Griffin
Regatta will be the first of its
kind in Australia.
"It encompasses kayak,
dragon boat and rowing,"
director Chris Cairns said.
"We're trying to create something a little
bit similar to what Henley is in the UK.
We want to have that type of delivery and
Luxurious marquees overlooking the

"We're probably looking at a single scull
and also a quad. There will be an elite category
and a club category or an open category. We
don't want to put the local rowers up against the
Olympians ... That will be the same as kayak
and then dragon boat, we will have an open
category and probably a masters category."
The Australian Traditional Boat Squadron

festivities, giving rides, boat building
demonstrations and historical lectures to
Cairns said there will be between 35 and

The visual spectacle will continue off
water as guests enjoy live music, fine food
and drinks at the Pimm's Garden Party.
"We're looking for around about 2000 to
2500 people and we want to make sure that
we have the space available so that people
can enjoy the day and watch the activity on
the water," Cairns said.
"We're going to have between 60 and
70 metres in length marquee area for that
Pimm's Garden Party... making sure it's a
great place to be in and a great afternoon
that people can enjoy the on-water activity
and enjoy the music that will be in the live
