Many of us take journeys
every day. Some of them
routine and prosaic while
others can be life-altering.
It's fascinating to see how
many people have either lived in
Canberra their whole lives and
never dreamt of venturing away,
while others have found a home
here from the vast reaches of
the globe. In our piece titled My
Inspirational Journey (page 24) we procured an insight in the
work of Care Australia's Alexandra Balmer who has visited
places such as South Sudan and has helped shaped peace
initiatives for women in those struggling communities.
Canberra Citizen of the Year, Chris Peters, also gives us an
optimistic insight into his battle with pancreatic cancer.
We take a trip down memory lane with a retrospective
look at the significance of the bus interchange to our city's
heart (page 14) as well as learning about where the city
streets got their interesting names (page 23).
Our coffee trail (page 29) showcases the talented and
passionate baristas that pour the delectable brews on offer
in the city's burgeoning coffee havens and for anyone who
loves shopping, our fashion spread Global Traveller has
been influenced by film noir. Local beauty Elizabeth Banks
travels back to the '40s in inspired fashion delights.
This month, we are also excited to announce the launch
of our long awaited new website at inthecitymagazine.com.
