Afeature of this year's Canberra Festival
will be an exciting pilot event, FlipArt.
FlipArt will be Australia's first dedicated
celebration of street and physical theatre,
an art form that Australia is famous for
worldwide. Canberra city will be brought to
life with large-scale aerial displays, puppetry,
roving acrobats, stilt-walkers and mime artists
-- all with a very special Australian sense of
comedy and outdoor spirit. On Friday March
12, during the screening of Lights! Canberra!
Action! moviegoers will witness puppetry
performances by Dislocate and Erth. On
Saturday, March 13 both Civic Square and
Garema Place will be alive with internationally
renowned physical theatre performers
showcasing their distinctive talents. Stalker
will present their world premiere performance
of 'Elevate', sure to impress crowds with their
stilt-walking prowess; while Dislocate and
Chrome's charismatic roving artists will mingle
with city shoppers. Erth's puppetry talent is
guaranteed to thrill both young and old alike,
while just the sight of Zimboyz high energy
African dance and acrobatics will leave you
gasping for more. Sunday, March 14 will see
Highwire Circus perform A little bit of Bally Ho
at New Acton, a fitting finale to the three-day

The 2010 Canberra Festival
will see the first ever outdoor
screening of the popular
Lights!Canberra!Action! short film festival.
Garema Place will be the venue for
nicknamed a 'scavenger hunt' for
filmmakers, who spend their time thinking
of quirky ways to include 10 selected
items into their films. Local filmmakers
are given just 10 days to plan, shoot,
produce, edit and submit their seven-
minute long films.
The theme for 2010 is 'Flip-Side', to
coincide with a brand new pilot Canberra
Festival event, FlipArt, that will showcase
Australia's best street and physical
Screening of the top 12 finalist films will
take place in Garema Place from 7.30pm
on Friday, March 12, to coincide with the
opening performances of FlipArt, that will
feature throughout the night.
